Criminal Justice Reform

Tennessee’s criminal justice system must be brought into the 21st Century. The lessons society has learned about inequality and justice should be applied to modern day reforms, including:

End Cash Bail: We have innocent people languishing in jail because they cannot afford bail. Brandon believes that Tennessee should institute a statewide pretrial release program that doesn’t punish people simply because they are poor. Only the wealthy and bail bondsmen win in the cash-bail game.

End the use of private prisons: No one should profit off of people in dire situations.

Legalize Marijuana: The use of cannabis is already legal in 11 states for people over the age of 21, and the medical use of marijuana is legal in 33 states. Legalization would be a boon to society and state coffers. To complete the transition, past convictions based on marijuana use should be overturned
